About Me
Aloha, I am Strider Kerrick—an ISSA Certified Personal Trainer and certified Functional Movement Systems provider based in Lahaina, Maui.
I grew up in Santa Cruz, California, playing soccer, spending any free time in the ocean, and living a very active outdoor lifestyle. When I was 18, I experienced significant injury when I wrecked my rotator cuff. I couldn’t move my arm for over six months and it was a tough time both physically and mentally. However, in hindsight, this injury set me on the path to where I am today. It gave me the opportunity to pause, learn about yoga, the human body, corrective exercises, and new ways to train.
I moved to San Diego in 1997 to train for and tryout to become a California State Beach Lifeguard. After rookie season I transferred back to Santa Cruz and continued to move up the ranks, in addition to instructing junior lifeguards.

In 2000 I moved to Maui, originally with the intention of staying for a year (…here I am 21 years later!). I fell in love with the island lifestyle, surfing nonstop, competing and also coaching Hawaiian outrigger canoe paddling.
— I was immersed in Maui’s ocean sports until I badly reinjured my shoulder.
It was at this point that I met Abe Galan, who was helping my injury rehabilitation at Galan Sports Chiropractic. This was a major turning point for me. My injury had given me time to pursue my personal trainer certification and I began working with some of Abe’s patients. Abe then steered me towards Functional Movement Systems and it was a complete game changer. I immediately loved the approach and the systems that focus on movement rather than individual muscle groups—patterns, not parts. I tried it on myself and it blew my mind. Functional Movement Systems helped my recovery in a big way and I am very passionate about passing my knowledge on to help others. I know exactly what it’s like to be injured, in pain, with a disconnect in your body, and I want to help you to get back on track, living the life that you want.
Aloha, Strider.
